The Downbeat Club, Friday Nights

Following on from our two sell out daytime Pit events we now have another Downbeat Club. We will be playing British R&B, Mod Classics and Club a' Gogo sounds all on vinyl. So expect to hear: The Animals, The Rolling Stones, original Blues such as John Lee Hooker, Slim Harpo, Sonny Boy Williamson, Them, Pretty Things, Spencer Davis Group, John Mayall, Cream, The High Numbers, Yardbirds, Kinks, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green), Geno Washington, Garnett Mimms, Zoot Money and Motown, Stax and Bluebeat. If you can't dance to that lot then you haven't got a pulse! The weekend starts here folks!

VENUE: Basement Room, Town Wall, Pink Lane

Our new basement venue has that authentic 60s Mod club feel with the sounds to match. Sharp dress is essential for our Downbeat club nights. We are are a friendly and non elitist club and all are welcome, mods, ex mods, non mods, music lovers or those just curious to hear what all the fuss is about, just give us a try, we'd love to meet you!

Some club history for you ...

The Downbeat Club was intrinsically linked to the Club a'Gogo. The Downbeat Club started off as a Newcastle jazz club but then as musical tastes changed the club started to play the deep R&B sounds the Newcastle Beats and Mods loved. The Downbeat was also a venue for The Animals before they got their residency at the Club a'Gogo. We'll be doing our best to capture that that gritty Downbeat sound that we know you all love.
