Club a’Gogo book review …

Thanks so much to the mod legend that is John Hellier for this amazing review of our new book. Feedback so far has been excellent which is great news. In John’s own words …

“Firstly a big thank you to Jools and Paul Donnelly for this gem of a book. ‘Club A’Gogo and the mod scene of 1960s Newcastle’ covers the history of 60s mod in that part of the country and, as you would expect with the subject matter, the attention to detail is absolutely spot on. I’ve never been to Newcastle, my own 60s mod history occurred several hundreds of miles away in the capital but I could relate to every page in the book as it could have been written about London with name changes for the shops, clubs and people.

The book is compiled by people so obviously dedicated to the cause and considering this is Jools and Paul’s first publication I’m gobsmacked by the quality, size (287 pages) and the encyclopaedic account of its contents including memories of mods that were there along with stories from the stars that played there. It’s all been compiled superbly and if I didn’t know differently I’d have thought it was the work of two authors with at least a dozen books behind them.

If you’ve got any past or present interest in the original mod scene and come from the north east of England this book is compulsory, there again if you’ve got any past or present interest in the original mod scene and DON’T come from the north east of England this book is still compulsory! Check it out eh? You’ll love it’
